Lakota Well-Being Project has been dedicated to relieving the impact of Covid-19 and building long lasting systems to address the disparities in health and healthcare on Standing Rock and in Indigenous communities throughout Oceti Sakowin. Thanks to the hard work of our volunteer team, in 2020 and 2021 we have:
Procured and distributed 800,000 masks, including cloth, surgical, children’s, and N95s throughout Standing Rock’s 8 districts and to Oceti Sakowin communities throughout the Dakotas.
Delivered personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face shields and gloves, plus disinfecting supplies (detergent, soaps, hand sanitizer) through several elderly nutrition sites, women’s shelters, local district councils, youth, community, and faith-based organizations.
Distributed free Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) to community and security teams across Standing Rock’s 8 local districts (Bear Soldier, Cannonball, Kenel, Long Soldier, Porcupine, Rock Creek, Running Antelope, Wakpala). +Working to schedule AED & BLS courses in each district.
Responded to gaps in affordable mobility supports for Covid-19, elderly & diabetes patients by providing free crutches, shower chairs, and wheel chairs by request.
Fundraised $29k to purchase & repair a used EMS vehicle for local community transportation and training access.
Utilized a donated van to transport patients needing rides, and to distribute medical supplies throughout Standing Rock.
Launched an Emergency Medical Responder course for Standing Rock led by a National Registry certified instructor and Oceti Sakowin relative.
Training and certifying a LWBP facilities team with Red Cloud Renewables to build EMS training and clinic units utilizing low-cost renewable energy powered foam-crete structures.
Exploring telemedicine, electronic health records and emergency medical services technologies to innovate and augment locally provided services in Standing Rock’s South Dakota districts.
